CBD - Smart Spectrum

So so honored to have all of you here as we get to the down and dirty of why CBD is becoming a household name, and the importance of understanding just how beneficial plant based wellness can be.
We seem to live in a society where we are made to feel that our health issues are somehow 100% our own fault because of genetics or lifestyle... but how about the the chemicals we are exposing ourselves to completely innocently? Completely unaware. Because things aren’t labeled correctly. Because "smart" marketing wraps products in brown labels with green leaves with the words Natural and we believe them. Did you know that chemicals that are illegal in other countries are lining the shelves of all of our favorite stores. How are we supposed to know??
Unfortunately, we have to do our own research. But there is something SO POWERFUL. SO HUMBLING. SO EXTRAORDINARY in educating your adult self. In taking back the power of your health. In erasing things that may have been handed down generationally.
I would love to share some of the research I have been digging up as Young Living takes CBD from partnership with Nature’s Ultra to available to purchase for YL members. 🙌🙌🙌
Please keep in mind these are my own findings, and i want to empower to you continue to research yourself, consult with medical professionals (ones that are educated around the subject), and BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE.
Let’s begin! ❤️

What Is CBD?
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a chemical compound from the cannabis plant. It's a naturally occurring substance that's used in products like oils, to impart a feeling of relaxation and calm.
Unlike its cousin tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), it's not psychoactive. Ohhhh, ya mean like Marijuana?? Yeah it's not like that.
Every description I read got suuuuuper sciencey, so if you want more of that, get after it on the deep dark internet. But today we are going to break it down in words we ALLLLL understand. Let's move on.

Is CBD the same as MARIJUANA?
No, IT’S NOT POT. If you are completely unfamiliar with CBD, you may be picturing someone in a zen den, listening to the Dead and smoking their worries away. And I’m sorry to tell you, you aren’t going to find that here.
While CBD is taken from the same cannibis plant as your THC-filled, college-experimental days, it lacks the psychoactive and mind altering effects. AKA NO, you don’t get high. (sorry Cheech).
While some call CBD oil Marijuana’s close cousin- fear not, as researchers have been spending the last several years proving that while Marijuana has amazing medicinal properties…what if we could take out the part “that makes people high?”
The cannabis plant is made up of two main players: CBD and THC.
And while THC is 20 times more potent than aspirin and twice as potent as hydrocortisone for reducing inflammation. It’s also likely to have a more powerful medicinal effect for certain conditions, CBD has therapeutic properties on its own.
**And no, as long as you are buying CBD with NO THC (ie: NATURE’S ULTRA) CBD will NOT show up on a drug test.
“The 2 major phyto- cannabinoid constituents with central nervous system activity are THC, responsible for the euphoric and mind-altering effects, and CBD, which lacks these psychoactive effects.” (PubMed)

How does CBD work?
Here’s some science for my people who love to know alllll the details:
All cannabinoids, including CBD, produce effects in the body by attaching to certain receptors.
The human body produces certain cannabinoids on its own. It also has two receptors for cannabinoids, called the CB1 receptors and CB2 receptors.
CB1 receptors are present throughout the body, but many are in the brain.
The CB1 receptors in the brain deal with coordination and movement, pain, emotions, and mood, thinking, appetite, and memories, and other functions. THC attaches to these receptors.
CB2 receptors are more common in the immune system.
They affect inflammation and pain.
Researchers once believed that CBD attached to these CB2 receptors, but it now appears that CBD does not attach directly to either receptor.
Instead, it seems to direct the body to use more of its own cannabinoids.
CBD primarily interacts with your body’s Endocannabinoid System (ECS).
What is the Endocannabinoid System (ECS)?
The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) regulates processes in the body such as appetite, pain, mood, memory, peripheral nervous system, and more.
Endocannabinoids and their receptors are found throughout the body: in the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands, and immune cells. In each tissue, the cannabinoid system performs different tasks, but the goal is always the same: homeostasis.
So just to clarify… Scientists discovered that there are systems in our bodies that are solely dependent on their interaction with cannabinoids, and these systems are part of vital functions in our bodies.

Is CBD Legal?
Thanks to the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, 0 thc CBD is not illegal in any state in the USA. That's right; according to federal law, it is legal in all 50 states. Although some states have tighter laws, I urge you to check.
That being said- make sure you are using a trustworthy brand with evidence based research. Especially one that stands behind sourcing and science...Nature's Ultra and YL.
And while there is a ton of work to do on FDA approval and researching, a lot of grey area, yet some amazing statements being made:
Dr. Scott Gottlieb, writing for the FDA in June 2018 stated:
"Today, the FDA approved a purified form of the drug cannabidiol (CBD). This is one of more than 80 active chemicals in marijuana. The new product was approved to treat seizures associated with two rare, severe forms of epilepsy in patients two years of age and older."

Let’s chat about Terpenes
Terp…what? So those of you that aren’t new to the EO world, may have heard this word before.
Read this research by Codie-lyn Kahler, author of CBD: Plant Based Wellness  in regards to the significance of ESSENTIAL OILS and CBD:
Terpenes are volatile aromatic molecules that evaporate easily. We are familiar with them because they are found in essential oils. Cannabis and Hemp also contain over 200 terpenes.
When CBD is broken down into an isolate many of the terpenes are removed. The terpenes have been found to enhance the effects of CBD, however, creating an isolate is the safest way to consume CBD at this time and ensure purity.
One way to improve the effects of the CBD isolate is to add terpenes back in. One way of doing this is by partnering it with therapeutic-grade essential oils (ahem... Young Living). Many essential oils are high in monoterpenes, diterpenes, and sesquiterpenes. When added to CBD the essential oil not only enhances the flavor but also the overall impact of the product creating a synergistic effect.
A September 2011 report by Dr. Ethan Russo in the British Journal of Pharmacology discussed the wide-ranging therapeutic attributes of terpenoids, which are typically lacking in “CBD-only” products.
💥AUTO IMMUNE FRIENDS - this here 👇
Beta-caryophyllene, for example, is a sesquiterpene found in some essential oils and other edible herbs, as well as in various cannabis strains and in many green, leafy vegetables. It is gastro-protective, good for treating certain ulcers, and offers great promise as a therapeutic compound for inflammatory conditions and auto-immune disorders because it binds directly to the peripheral cannabinoid receptor known as “CB2.” Terpenoids and cannabinoids both increase blood flow and enhance cortical activity.
Terpene-infused CBD isolate or CBD used with essential oils high in terpenoids can have a significant impact on an individual’s health and wellness. With numerous essential oils high in terpenes we have the ability to experiment and find the combination that will work best for each individual.

Benefits of CBD
While CBD is still being actively researched, there are thousands of clinical studies that have shown the benefits of usage:
221 Studies: Cannabidiol displays anti-seizure properties
533 Studies: Regulation of nausea and vomiting by cannabinoids
1784 Studies: CBD suppresses pain
1168 Studies: CBD improves brain function
295 Studies: CBD improves sleep
2042 Studies: CBD Fights Cancer and Tumors
1368 Studies: Cannabidiol protects from inflamation
413 Sudies: Anxiety relief with CBD
802 Studies: CBD helps fight neurodegenerative disease
CBD and Pain Management
There are two main types of pain, Dr. Danesh says: musculoskeletal and nerve. "There could be benefit for both conditions," he says. (Dr. Houman Danesh, MD, is the director of integrative pain management for the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City)
What about my anxiety—can CBD help with that?
CBD might be worth trying to manage symptoms of anxiety. "[CBD] tells your body to calm down and reminds you that you're safe," Dr. Chin says. "It mellows out the nervous system so you're not in a heightened 'fight or flight' response," she says, so people with anxiety may find it helps them feel more relaxed.
Still, one of the biggest misconceptions about CBD is that it's a wonder drug. "A lot of times people think CBD is a cure-all, and it's not," Dr. Chin says. "You should also have a healthy lifestyle with plenty of exercise and good nutrition—CBD is not going to fix everything.”
But man, we are just getting started. Having plant based tools to support our bodies are priceless.

Children and CBD
While using anything with your kids can be a big scary leap, (again this is why I urge you to do your research), there are a ton of reports about families that took that jump and literally moved to the states that legalized CBD usage first because they believed in its value that much.
While there are no reports on long term effects, the current studies and testimonies, speak volumes. Popular uses many doctors are seeing are many of the adult uses discussed earlier including pain management, ADHD, Autism, Sleep Support, Seizures, focus, and more
“Go slowly and try to be systematic and monitor,” Devinsky says.
I highly urge you to discuss with a CBD-knowledgable doctor and start at the lowest dosage. There are many doctors who are not educated in the use of CBD for various conditions in kids so you may need to broaden your search. This is important so that he or she can manage your child’s overall care, monitor possible side effects, and help you avoid medication interactions. “It’s hard to find physicians at this point who are experienced and comfortable in this area, so that’s going to be a challenge,” Shannon says. “But I think that’s a good goal, if they can find a professional who can guide them with this.”

Dosage & Drops
Everyone is unique, like all things it is best to start low and go slow. You should plan to use consistently before gauging how much more you may need.
Because everyone is different, you may need to step up your dosage and/or strength after 30 days until you’ve reached your desired goals. From my own experience, starting lower gives room to add a higher dosage as needed. If you start with a high dose at first, it may be too much or you may not give yourself much room to add more if needed.
If a person has been using CBD for an extended period of time and not getting the results they are looking for, chances are they are not using a high enough dose. The general recommendation for dosing, is to start low (MILD) and go slow – gradually working up the dose every five to seven days.
It’s important to experiment to find out the right dosage needed, which is also why it’s important to be consistent, patient and give it time.
Personally, I like to add the cbd directly on my knees, elbow and shoulder every night. I also like to make essential oil rollers and add cbd to those as needed so that I easily use it during the day.
Other considerations:
+Prescription drug interactions: check with a doctor that is knowledgeable about cbd use.

Nature’s Ultra and Young Living:
Those of you that are familiar with Young Living are probably familiar with their Seed to Seal promise. (If you’re not…educate yourself realllll quick).
Here's a quick explanation for you- Not all essential oils are created equally, GASP. No it’s true, we all know that one beautiful hippie that’s been boiling lavender in her basement for years…..well unfortunately, the benefits are lost when not distilled properly. Or the essential oils in the dollar section…ew, just don’t do it. Or even the "natural store"... Look REAL HARD at those.... Do they own their own farms? Can you visit them? Who is in control of what's in that bottle? And how can you be sure?
Not only is Young Living the world leader in essential oils, but they’ve also pioneered the modern-day essential oils movement for 25 years and provide more than 600 essential oil and essential oil-infused products to more than 6 million households across the globe.
When sourcing a CBD partnership, this same level of quality was most important. Young Living has been working with Nature’s Ultra because of their paralleled commitment to pure, high-quality products.
• YL has acquired Natures Ultra because its CBD products align with our values, including our Seed to Seal commitment.
• Nature’s Ultra is owned 100% by Young Living, and maintained separately for legalities.
“The greatest concern, however, and one I hear repeatedly is quality control. In 2015, the F.D.A. found that many CBD-labeled products actually contained very little CBD.” (-Moises Velasquez-Manoff, NYTimes)
So excited to have a quality CBD product available to Young Living members!
Know the source of your hemp and CBD
Sure, you can get CBD oil at the gas station and Walgreens, but watch this short video to learn why you want to know where and how your hemp that your CBD oil is from is grown.
Hemp is a well-known phytoremediator, which means it takes in all of the contaminants and toxins found in the soil. While this may be good for improving soil quality, it also means that hemp products may contain contaminants and toxins that you would not want on your skin or in your body. Young Living's Nature's Ultra entire product line is organically and naturally cultivated from our farm to your door. Not only do we have one of the first hemp farms in the United States to hold the USDA organic handler’s certification, we also don’t use pesticides. This is part of our promise to you, and a big reason why we’re Young Living Seed to Seal-certified.
Nature's Ultra is grown on 1500 acres in high-altitude conditions on the farm that they own in Colorado, which means they don't need to use pesticides.
Nature's Ultra is a seed to seal farm, which means it uses best practice organic farming that includes regenerative agriculture practices.
Nature's Ultra is one of the first USDA Certified Organic CBD farms on top of being USDA Organic Handling Certified.
During the extraction process, all of Nature's Ultra's products are tested multiple times for potency and purity. Rigorous testing ensures that each product is free of any heavy metals, and our proprietary CO2 extraction methods mean you don’t have to worry about harsh chemicals. The result is the purest CBD and 0.00% THC so it's safe for everyone in your family, even your family pet! https://naturesultra.com/pages/quality-assurance
Nature's Ultra has the only government-approved Lacey Act sourcing program, ensuring sustainability.
Young Living is the only essential oil company in the entire industry that had its compliance program reviewed and accepted by the U.S. Government, and that includes our Nature's Ultra CBD.
Nature's Ultra is the only CBD oil on the market that includes Young Living Essential Oils. Combining their CBD oil with Young Living's essential oil terpenes make it a broad-spectrum CBD that we call, Smart Spectrum.
Do you think that all of the other CBD oils out there can do all of that? Might as well pay for the best quality CBD you can find, just like your essential oils 😉

My absolute favorite way to use oils in general. On the go and so so freaking easy.
And because most of us are already essential oil users, or passionate about clean living- we understand the importance of reading labels, as most things we use on our bodies are also absorbed into our bloodstreams. We have read vast studies that claim our skin absorbs 60% of what you put on it,” and “anything you put on your skin is absorbed into your bloodstream within 26 seconds,” and while we are steadily aware that chemicals are generally bad for our overall health, what happens when we apply something to our bodies that we generally would like to support it?
For those of you who love rollers already made for you - this will be your best friend - Infused with calming YL oils, Calm creates a peaceful environment that will help relax and quiet your mind.
(this is so perfect to keep in your purse, especially on days where you have to travel on an airplane or need help calming down at bedtime)
